Participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Vesna Svalina in an international conference in Singapore

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Vesna Svalina participated in the international scientific conference 3rd World Conference on Teaching, Learning, and Education, held from March 27 to 29, 2026, in Singapore, with the possibility of both in-person and virtual participation. As part of the virtual segment of the conference, on March 29, 2026, she delivered a presentation entitled “Teaching-Ready Notation from Historical Scans: Opportunities and Limits of OMR/AI.” The presentation was also included in the Abstract Book of the 3rd World Conference on Teaching, Learning, and Education, 2026. The presentation outlined the possibilities and limitations of applying optical music recognition (OMR) and artificial intelligence in transforming historical music scans into teaching materials suitable for contemporary educational practice. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for expert musical and pedagogical validation of computer-generated notation to ensure the reliable use of historical sources in teaching. The presentation forms part of the dissemination activities of the project “From Reinterpretation to Retrodigitization of School Manuals in the Croatian Language from the Mid-19th to the Early Decades of the 20th Century (ReDiP)”, which explores the possibilities of reinterpretation and digital processing of historical educational sources, as well as their application in contemporary educational and scientific contexts. Participation in the conference contributed to the international visibility of the ReDiP project and to the presentation of its research objectives within a broader scientific context.
